The Sacred Tamirabarani River
The Lifeline of Southern Tamil Nadu
The sacred Tamirabarani River is one of the oldest perennial rivers in South India and is revered as a divine river by devotees across Tamil Nadu.
The river originates from the majestic Pothigai Hills (Agasthiyar Malai) in the Western Ghats, a region closely associated with Sage Agastya, one of the revered Sapta Rishis of Hindu tradition.
Flowing through the fertile districts of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, the Tamirabarani nurtures agriculture, sustains biodiversity, and supports countless communities along its banks. The river travels approximately 128 kilometers before merging with the Gulf of Mannar in the Bay of Bengal.
Throughout history, the Tamirabarani has been celebrated in ancient Tamil literature, inscriptions, and spiritual texts. Numerous temples, sacred bathing ghats, and pilgrimage centers have flourished along its banks, making it one of the most spiritually significant rivers in South India.

Ananda Rudratsa Eswarar Dhiyana Peedam
A Unique Spiritual Marvel of Rudraksha Worship
Arulmigu Ananda Rudratsa Eswarar Dhiyana Peedam is located on the bank of the sacred river Tamirabarani and is one of the most unique spiritual centers in India.
The temple houses an extraordinary 12-foot-tall manifestation of Lord Shiva known as Ananda Rudratsa Eswarar. What makes this divine form truly remarkable is that it has been created using approximately 700,000 sacred Rudraksha beads, making it a rare spiritual masterpiece and one of its kind.
The sacred structure is carefully supported and preserved within a specially designed copper framework, symbolizing strength, purity, and divine energy.
Rudraksha has been revered in Hindu tradition for thousands of years as a sacred symbol of Lord Shiva, believed to bestow spiritual growth, peace of mind, protection, and divine blessings.

Temple History and Consecration Details
Arulmigu Ananda Rudratsa Eswarar Dhiyana Peedam is a sacred spiritual center situated in the historic and peaceful village of Karisulndamangalam, Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu. Nestled along the divine currents of the holy Thamirabarani River, the temple serves as an energy portal for seekers of meditation, yoga, and Shiva worship.
The primary mission of the Dhiyana Peedam is to propagate regular Shiva meditation, foster devotional service, and direct community outreach programs.
The Maha Kumbabishekam (16 July 2021)
The sacred consecration and initial Kumbabishekam of the temple deities was successfully conducted with ancient Vedic rituals on 16 July 2021 for:
- Ananda Vinayagar: The lord of auspicious beginnings, clearing mental obstacles.
- Ananda Dhandayuthapani: Lord Murugan represented in his meditative ascetic form.
- Ananda Nandikeswarar: The prime disciple of Shiva, representing patience and devotion.
- Ananda Vaalai Amman: The mother energy representing spiritual transformation.
- Ananda Rudratsa Eswarar: The main Shiva Linga adorned with the representation of Rudraksha beads.
Annual Varushabishekam & Consecration 2026
Marking a crucial milestone in the temple's development, the grand Varushabishekam ceremony along with the consecration (Prathishta) of new Parivara Deities will be celebrated on 23 June 2026.
Newly consecrated forms including Goddess Brahmananda Eswari, Lord Dakshinamurthy, Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma, the legendary Sapta Rishis (Seven Sages), and the dynamic Ananda Akarshana Swarna Bhairavar will be dedicated, transforming the Peedam into a fully realized spiritual sanctuary.
